Funding for clubs, leagues and community groups
There are many funding pots and organisations that may support those looking to develop their table tennis offer.
The Small Grants Programme seeks to develop opportunities for communities to get more people physically active and support new projects through providing National Lottery funding of between £300 and £15,000. Clubs, Leagues, Schools and Community Groups can apply.
The following clubs have recently been successful applying for funding to support delivery of new activity for young people and 60+ using programmes such as TT Kidz and Bat & Chat:

Applications Close – 31 March 2024
With a pot of £7 million from 12 April 2022, the fund matches successful crowdfunding campaigns of up to £10,000 as organisations look to use Birmingham 2022 as a catalyst to improve places and spaces to get active.
A £7.5 million fund with up to £10,000 in match funding, as part of a support package to help clubs and organisations set up and run crowdfunding campaigns related to Covid-19, such as for a loss of income due to the pandemic.

There are 42 Active Partnerships across England who work with local partners and clubs to help increase physical activity and wellbeing. They have extensive knowledge of local and national funding opportunities, that could support your project.

easyfundraising turns daily shopping into funding for your club!
Fundraising can be difficult in the current economic climate, which is why Table Tennis England has partnered with easyfundraising, a tech platform that will help clubs to generate funding at no cost to themselves.
easyfundraising gives clubs the chance to fundraise effortlessly through online shopping via an app, donation reminder or website with more than 7,000 brands including Tesco, Trainline, Booking.com and Amazon.
It’s the brand’s chance to be a part of something good and easyfundraising’s way of helping your club cash in when your supporters check out.

Funding for outdoor spaces
Suggestions of useful funding streams, to add further weight/match funding to your projects, particularly useful for activation of outdoor space.
Projects can include new play equipment; landscaping works, including boardwalks, trees and shrubs; skate parks; woodland walks; nature trails; outdoor gyms. It generally includes projects that benefit people within their free time. Under this theme an applicant will have to show evidence of wider community use, involvement and consultation.

For great local ideas of between £5,000 and £40,000 for up to two years. The programme is open in different parts of the country at different times.

Funding programmes designed to improve a broad range of publicly accessible amenities which benefit a wide cross section of the community. Whether improving a local play area or a nationally significant historic building, each project has the potential to transform the community in which it is based.

Under S106 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990, as amended, contributions can be sought from developers towards the costs of providing community and social infrastructure, the need for which has arisen as a result of a new development taking place. This funding is commonly known as ‘Section 106’.
A quick way to apply for smaller amounts of funding between £300 and £10,000.

Coaching and Officials
Financial assistance is available to coaches, while officials travelling abroad can apply for help with expenses.
Charlie was involved in our sport in a range of different capacities for over 40 years, including as a board member of Table Tennis England, before his untimely death at the age of 69 in March 2020.
The Charlie Childs Coaching Grant, launched in August 2021, will support:
- Table Tennis England Members starting or continuing their coaching journey
- Increasing participation from young people, women and girls, ethnic communities or disability communities
- Table Tennis England Members from a protective characteristic inspired to engage in leadership positions
How the grant works:
The grant will be available to applicants who are Table Tennis England members who will be using the grant to increase and/or retain participation in one or more of the following groups:
- Young people (up to 25 years old)
- People with disabilities
- People from an ethnic community
- Women and Girls
The grant particularly welcomes applications from members from one or more of the following groups:
- Aged between 16 and 30
- Identifies as a female
- Living with a disability or coaches individuals with a disability within table tennis
- An individual from either an ethnically diverse community or lower socio-economic group
Applications will be awarded on a rolling basis and will be reviewed by a panel using pre-set criteria. Applications will be considered for up to 50% of grant funding towards a programme, up to a maximum of £200.
Each applicant will need to demonstrate how receiving a grant will help to increase and/or retain the number of young people (age range up to U25) participating in the sport and/or increase equality in the sport – by increasing the number of women and girls, Disabled People or those from ethnically diverse communities participating.
Individuals will be permitted to make one application every two years. An annual summary of all funded programmes will be published and shared with Charlie’s family and Table Tennis England members.
The application panel will include England International and Generation 2 Club member Lois Peake, Table Tennis England Director Priya Samuel, and Coach and Education Manager Aled Howell.

Umpires and referees who are selected to officiate abroad are able to apply for financial assistance towards their travelling expenses when cost is a factor that might otherwise have prevented them from attending. The application form ‘Tom Blunn Fund application for financial assistance’ should be completed and submitted to the Chairman of the Technical Officials’ Committee.
Those umpires and referees who are recognised by the Technical Officials’ Committee as being advanced international officials or actively working towards that status are able to apply for financial assistance for attending certain international events. This financial assistance is to enable those officials to maintain this advanced status or to work towards achieving such status. The terms of this support are detailed in the attached document ‘Financial Support for Travel to International Events’.
