A major research project between Table Tennis England and the Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS) has identified the main reasons why female players drop out of table tennis, and highlighted opportunities to provide better experiences to keep women and girls in the sport.
The project explored the experiences in the sport of women and girls aged 18-30, from social to elite levels. To read a summary of the research please click here or for more detailed please see the attachments at the foot of this page.
There is also a response from various departments from Table Tennis England showing how we will be reviewing each of the recommendations going forward.
Some of the recommendations and key themes from the TASS research have already inspired conversations leading to actions. A key theme emerged from the research around female player’s kit and the unsuitability of it becoming a potential barrier to participation. This has led to the kit rule for female players being reviewed and revised to be more flexible.
The TAS research has also been a key part of building the new #levelthetable Diversity and inclusion strategy .
