Louis Price, Ben Piggott and Joseph Hunter reached the knockout stages in two age groups at the WTT Youth Contender Szombathely in Hungary, with Naphong Boonyaprapa doing so in one age group. Meanwhile, Megan Jones reached the main draw at the WTT Youth Contender Senec in Slovakia.

Price and Piggott both made it out of their groups in the Under-19 and Under-17 Boys’ Singles, while Hunter matched at feat at Under-15 and Under-17 levels.

In the Under-19s, Piggott, Price and Naphong Boonyaprapa all went through as group runners-up, while Olly Cornish was unable to progress. The three remaining English players all went out in the last 64, though Piggott and Boonyaprapa took their higher-ranked opponents to deciding games – Boonyaprapa fighting back from 2-0 down including taking the third 17-15.

In the under-17s, Price topped his group thanks to two wins from two, including a terrific 3-2 (5-11, 17-15, 11-13, 11-7, 11-9) victory over Napat Thanmathikom of Thailand, the group’s top-ranked player. He was defeated in the last 32 by Vincent Senkbeil of Germany.

Hunter and Piggott went through into the last 64 as group runners-up, Piggott digging in to defeat Giacomo Izzo of Italy 3-2 (11-2, 6-11, 13-15, 11-5, 11-8), while Hunter beat Luxembourg’s Gene Wantz in three. Both went out in the last 64 to higher-ranked players.

Boonyaprapa, Cornish and Jakub Piwowar did not make it through the groups.

In the under-15s, Hunter went through as group runner-up but ran into top seed Preyesh Suresh Raj of India in the last 32 and was beaten in three. Piwowar went out in the group stage.

Also on the international youth circuit, Megan Jones, Scarlett Anders and Sienna Jetha have all been competing at the WTT Youth Contender Senec in Slovakia. Only Jones made it into the knockouts, courtesy of a good 3-2 (11-7, 4-11, 9-11, 11-9, 11-9) win over Magdalene Scibraniova (CZE) in the Under-17 Girls’ Singles. She was defeated in the last 32 by Brazil’s Guilia Takahashi, who went on to reach the semi-finals.
