Volunteers are the life-blood of table tennis, and our Young Ambassador programme proactively looks to engage younger members of the table tennis community into volunteering whilst helping them to gain valuable skills and offer incentives throughout the programme such as a discount on the Level 1 Session Coach qualification.

Yet, much like other areas of our sport, females are underrepresented in our Young Ambassador programme making up just 17% of all participants.

We are calling out for clubs to put forward females for the Young Ambassadors programme, and encourage them to take up this opportunity which will not only offer them invaluable experience for their CVs, but also inspire them to take up roles in table tennis that are male dominated.

What is the Young Ambassador programme?

The Table Tennis England Young Ambassador programme has been running since 2018, with over 100 Young People rewarded for their volunteering hours.

There are currently 39 Young Ambassadors signed on to the programme, with 18 Premier Clubs who have pro-actively recruited their Young Ambassadors.

The majority of the Young Ambassadors are aged between 14-17 years old, with a gender split of 83% boys and 17% girls.

What type of volunteering can Young Ambassadors carry out?

Type of volunteering could be assisting with coaching sessions once a week, helping out with TT Kidz sessions, assisting at events, creating a digital presence for the club or joining the club committee as a Junior Representative.

Over the last two years the Young Ambassadors have completed over 742 hours of volunteering within their clubs.

One of the newly recruited Young Ambassadors Emily Ireland, has been very busy accumulating her volunteering hours helping out at running some of the recent Table Tennis England events.

I have volunteered at a number of 2 star events the club runs and I’ve helped as a Young Activator at our TT Kidz sessions. I’ve met a number of new people through the sport and become more involved with events over recent years. Just recently I was the Referee’s assistant at the STIGA Blackpool Junior 4 Star, helping to write up the KO matches following the group stages, checking players in on arrival and writing up the wall charts.
