Table tennis was one of the most popular sports at the recent Wheelpower National Junior Games at the iconic Stoke Mandeville Stadium.
The Games aim to encourage everyone to try several different para sports and provides information about how to continue in each sport.
The Games was the first for two years because of the pandemic and more than 130 participants came from all over the country, either with their schools or individually, to take part in a series of sporting challenges.
The table tennis participants could play and learn the appropriate way of playing, and the less able could play Polybat – an adaptation by taking out the net and add side bars, allowing players to roll the ball to each other and improve their hand-eye coordination.
Coaches Pedro Santos (pictured above) and Amanda Worne (both from Worthing TTC) and Dan Bullen (BPTT) organised fun target challenges and introduced basic technical skills and advanced coaching for talented players.
Approximately 20 participants chose table tennis as their favourite sport and were advised to contact their local clubs. Five of these participants were targeted as having great potential and were directed to British Para Table Tennis.
