Thousands of potential new converts to table tennis are expected to visit the Have a Go Zone in Birmingham during the Commonwealth Games.

The zone is inside the NEC, adjacent to the table tennis and para table tennis field of play and publicly accessible to all spectators.

That means up to 5,000 visitors could go through the zone at every session of the Games, which begin on July 28.

The area will have four tables throughout the games, three set aside for challenges and one for free play.

Table 1 will promote TT Kidz and include a series of TT Kidz-related games for people to try, while table 2 will feature the Smash it Challenge – where all-comers can measure their shots on a speed gun, with prizes for the fastest.

Table 3 will have a target challenge and the chance to play against a robot, while the fourth table will have free play – and some special guests including former Commonwealth Games athletes and Olympians.

There will also be an interactive trail, telling visitors all about table tennis in England.

The delivery of the zone is a huge team effort and being staffed by Table Tennis England and volunteers from across the West Midlands.
