Would you like to emulate the 18 English umpires who were recently part of the team of officials at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games? If so, then why not take the first step on the umpiring ladder at one of three upcoming courses?

Level 1 courses are being held in Middlesbrough, Sheffield and Halifax in the coming weeks, and places can now be booked online.

The course is the entry level umpiring qualification and comprises two parts – an online learning module and online exam, followed by a practical session.

It is the first part of a journey which could lead you to officiate at major international events, such as the Commonwealth Games!

The practical sessions are as follows:

  • September 10 at Ormesby TTC in Middlesbrough
  • October 22 at English Institute of Sport, Sheffield
  • December 12 at Halifax Table Tennis Centre

The practical sessions all take place from 10am to 4pm and will be run by an International Umpire and will cover all major issues which an umpire is likely to face. These include on-court behaviour, serving, doubles and expedite.

Premier Clubs are all entitled to book a free place on each course – the cost otherwise is £30 per person. For the course in Sheffield, members of British Para Table Tennis are entitled to a free place.
