More than 330 players, 46 tables and 15 divisions mean the Junior British league, which begins this weekend, is going from strength to strength.
Derby Arena is again the main venue, but both the boys’ and girls’ categories are bolstered by an extra division compared with last season, meaning a ‘satellite’ venue of six tables will operate at Draycott & Long Eaton TTC.
In the girls’ Premier, defending champions Wensum again look like the team to beat and will be spearheaded by the No 1 in the ratings, Mari Baldwin, who won all 20 of her matches last season.
Backing her up is the No 2 Tianer Yu and the fifth and sixth-rated players in the competition, Lara Whitton and Amy Marriott.
Draycott have a squad of four top-10 players in the shape of Sophie Earley, Megan Jones and sisters Erin and Anna Green, while Kingfisher boast the No 3 and No 7 players, Anaya Patel and Millie Rogove.
Grantham College, Urban TTC and London Academy complete the top division.
Connor Green and Rhys Davies return for defending champions Draycott in the boys’ Premier Division, and are joined by Naphong Boonyaparapa, meaning they have the top three players in the ratings.
Toby Ellis has moved from Draycott to Grantham Academy, where he and Elias Sjogren are rated at Nos 8 and 7 respectively.
Fusion also have plenty of power with their players – Gabrielius Camara, Larry Trumpauskas and Josh Bruce – ranked at 5=, 7= and 10.
Ackworth eBatt, Ormesby and Ormeau all have players who can live with the best, so there are sure to be plenty of feisty matches and surprise results.
