Promoted Walton D have started their campaign in Division Two of the Clacton & District League in solid style, sharing the spoils for a second time in as many weeks, this time against Brotherhood D.

Andy Foster remained unbeaten and reserve Paul Woolnough took two for the Walton side. For Brotherhood, Martin Scarfe won a couple, Kevin Pryor and Tony Edmonds took one each, with Scarfe and Pryor edging a tight 3-2 (11-9, 11-7, 10-12, 5-11, 11-8) doubles against Foster and Tony Sharman.

For a second week, Chris Parr was Nomads Jaguars’ unbeaten hero, this in his team’s drawn match with Lawford. But the Jaguars will feel they could easily have won the match, with four of Lawford’s points coming from the matches which went the distance.

Daryl Lott won one for Nomads but lost 11-4 in the fifth to Richard Spence whilst Chris Petrou had the misfortune to narrowly lose all his three singles, 11-5 in the fifth to John Colvin, and 11-8 in the fifth to both Spence and Ian Sherwood. For Lawford, Spence and John Colvin each won two, and Sherwood one.

A good all-round team performance saw Brotherhood B defeat Windsor Kestrels 7-3, Paul Alden taking three, Barry Allen two and Tricia Salter one, a tight 3-2 (11-7, 17-15, 8-11, 8-11, 11-8) victory over Graham Bunce. Peter Aumord won two for the Kestrels and Debra Found one, Aumord involved in another nail-biter, edging out Allen 11-9 in the decider.

Trebles for Pete Bloomfield and Dave Martin, and a win for Ray Chillingworth on his return after a season’s absence through illness, ensured Windsor Buzzards’ 8-2 victory over Nomads Tigers. The Buzzards took the three matches which went all the way, Martin beating Colin Webber 11-5 in the fifth and then Dave Miller 12-10 in the fifth whilst Bloomfield found Kevin Hume the most difficult of the opposition, eventually winning 3-2 (11-1, 8-11, 15-17, 11-3, 11-6).

Brotherhood C notched up a 6-4 success against Windsor Harriers, Mark Beckham, John Gallagher and Paul Metcalf all winning twice. Both Beckham’s wins came close in five, the closest being his 13-11 in the decider victory over Ferdy Rodriguez. But he failed to get his hat-trick, losing out to Jenny Higgins who also shared a three-straight doubles win with Rodriguez over Beckham and Metcalf.

In Division Three there was an encouraging first win for the newcomers of Brotherhood F, 8-2 against Nomads Bobcats. Tom Bryden and Joe Sherwin took trebles, with JJ Barry getting one and sharing a doubles success with Sherwin. Bryden had two tough matches, winning 11-5 in the decider against Norman Jacobs and 11-6 in the decider against James Horsler. But the two Bobcats’ points came from even tighter matches, Jacobs beating Barry 3-2 (7-11, 8-11, 15-13, 11-8, 11-9) and Horsler scraping past the same player in five (11-5, 11-5, 5-11, 3-11, 12-10).

Walton E are moving along nicely, this week winning 8-2 against Nomads Ocelots. Lynette Sparks took her maximum whilst there were a couple each for her team-mates Maggie Earle and Adrian Sexton, as there was for the Nomads’ points-scorer Arthur Wells-Garrett.

The experience of Windsor Penguins was too good for the youth of Brotherhood E, the Penguins winning 10-0 with all the matches settled in three-straight, as it was also as Windsor Magpies won 10-0 against a Nomads Lynx side fielding a guest player.

And there was a third 10-0 result as the dependable Nomads Leopards’ trio of Bob Jillins, Dominic Joannou and Stewart Wilkinson proved no match for Windsor Merlins, Sam Plummer, Joe Plummer and John Harvey all recording trebles in the victory. Of the three matches due to be played in Division One, two were rescheduled and the result card of the other match has not yet been returned – so there’s nothing to report from this Division this week.
