Ormeau and Fusion came out on top of their opening fixtures of the new Senior British League Premier Division.

In Belfast, Ormeau fought to a 4-3 home win against Urban TTC. The victory was a team effort as Matthew Ware, Zak Wilson and James Skelton each won one singles tie. Played across a single table the fixture opened with Ware beating Gergely Urban before Toby Ellis beat Wilson in five to level.

Wilson and Ware beat James Hamblett and Ellis in the doubles to give the home side a slight advantage. That was quickly cancelled as Hamblett beat Skelton in five, including an 18-16 in the fourth.

Toby Ellis, who was named player of the match, beat Ware to make the overall score 3-2. Skelton and Wilson were too strong for Urban and Hamblett respectively as Ormeau fought back to make it 4-3 to the home side.

In the only other fixture to take place on Saturday, Fusion ran out comfortable 5-2 winners against BATTS. Josh Bennett picked up both games for the away side, as well as the player of the match award.

The home side of Lorestas Turmpauskas, Joshua Bruce and Robert Pelc proved too strong for the BATTS trio. The opening games were shared, both in three, as Turmpauskas beat Joe Cope and Bennett beat Bruce.

Bruce and Turmpauskas then combined in the doubles to give Fusion the upper hand going into the final four matches. Robert Pelc beat 14-year-old Ralph Pattison in four to make it 3-1 to Fusion before Bennett picked us his second win of the afternoon to reduce the deficit. Bruce (pictured above) made it 4-2, including an epic 19-17 first set, against Pattison to ensure the home-side would pick up three points. Pelc eventually overcame Cope in five to extend the margin of victory.

The 5-2 win put Fusion on top of the league after the first round of fixtures.

Round two of the SBP Premier Division is set to take place on 12th November, with reigning championships Ormesby one of six teams in action.
