Table Tennis England partner StreetTT has been shortlisted for an award at the London Sport Awards.
The app is one of three organisations shortlisted for the Digital and Tech Innovation Award, which recognises creative new thinking, innovative ideas, or the creation and/or use of digital or technological methods to support inactive Londoners to get and stay physically active.
The London Sport Awards, supported by the City of London Corporation, are taking place on March 23, 2023 at the Guildhall and will be an incredible celebration of sport and physical activity’s unsung heroes across the capital. All finalists will be invited to the event to meet the other nominees and await the announcement of the winners for each category.
The StreetTT app was created by Societechy during the pandemic to enable people to connect and play table tennis outdoors and in a safe way when indoor play was not an option. It now has thousands of users around the world. Everyone who signs up gets instant access, seeing listed table tennis events and ‘meetups’ within a 100km radius.
Table Tennis England has been working with Societechy since the StreetTT App was first launched and funded targeted pilot projects in London and Birmingham alongside City Council projects in Manchester, York, Oxford and Cambridge. The partnership was extended earlier this year.
Louis Cadier, Societechy CEO and founder of StreetTT said: “For us, StreetTT on the LSAs shortlist is a recognition of the passion and appetite of the people of London to play table tennis together.
“As we work to empower anyone to get involved in their local community and the sport, it is the players and voluntary moderators who make it happen and we applaud them.”
Table Tennis England Partnerships Manager Colin Eley said: “With so many free public places to play across London, we’re are always looking for new and innovative ways to bring people to the table.
“StreetTT does just that, it provides a platform for individuals to autonomously play across the city, as well as empowering communities to come together over one common theme – table tennis!
“We’re keen to see what the future holds for StreetTT as we work together to extend the reach across the country.”
