A near ever-present in the Brotherhood line-up, having missed just one of his side’s last thirty-eight matches and with a regular seventy-five per cent plus record, Gowlett turned up trumps once again this week against Walton A, his maximum including an excellent win over Kevin James in his side’s hard-fought 6-4 success.

Russell Hillier contributed two fine wins, 11-4 in the fifth against Derek Willis and 14-12 in the fifth against Colin Dearman, with the Gowlett-Hillier pairing enjoying a first doubles success for the Brotherhood A side this season to clinch the victory.

Kevin James won a couple for Walton, with Dearman and Willis taking one each.

Nomads Panthers could only field two players against Walton B but hat-tricks from John Hatley and Greg Green were enough to secure a 6-4 victory. But Walton’s John Marshall and Gavin Price had the satisfaction of inflicting a first doubles defeat of the season on a Panthers’ pair, beating Hatley and Green 13-11, 11-8, 5-11, 11-8.

Windsor Eagles are moving nicely into gear and they were comfortable 9-1 winners over Walton C. Paul Hume and Mel Rampton stayed undefeated, with Phil Smith winning two but going down 11-9 in the decider to Mark Ratcliffe in the only encounter extended beyond three sets.

In Division Two Windsor Harriers’ skipper Ferdy Rodriguez beat Andy Cawley of Windsor Buzzards 13-11, 9-11, 11-6, 10-12, 12-10 in the night’s opening tie but that was the Harriers only success as the Buzzards maintained their top-of-the-table position with a 9-1 win. Pete Bloomfield and Ray Chillingworth remained unbeaten.

It was also 9-1 for Lawford against Windsor Kestrels. Ian Sherwood and Charlie Denholm took trebles, Sherwood having a close 11-8 in the fifth win over Graham Bunce. Richard Spence’s two for Lawford included an 11-9 in the fifth victory against Peter Aumord but he went down in three-straight to Bunce in match ten.

Nomads Jaguars turned out a strong threesome against Brotherhood B and took the match 6-4, Chris Parr unbeaten and Chris Petrou winning two. Barry Allen’s couple for Brotherhood included an 11-9 in the final set win over Petrou.

The Brotherhood C v Brotherhood D encounter ended all-square. Mark Boyland won his three for the ‘C’ team whilst there were two each for Martin Scarfe and Kevin Pryor of the ‘D’ side.

Leaders Windsor Penguins played twice this week in Division  Three and both matches ended in 9-1 victories.

Neil Chegwidden and Kayley Rodriguez recorded trebles in the win over Nomads Lynx, Pam Cousins of the Lynx enjoying a surprise success over Sharon Gowlett.

Chegwidden was again unbeaten in the Penguins’ match against Nomads Leopards, Annabelle Stallwood winning three and Gowlett two. Bob Jillins took the Leopards’ point.

Jillins was on-song in the Leopards’ second match, winning his three singles in his sides’ 8-2 success over Nomads Bobcats. Dominic Joannou and Stuart Wilkinson each won a couple, as did Doug Green for the losers. The closest match of the evening saw Green edge past Joannou 6-11, 11-8, 8-11, 11-9, 11-8.

Windsor Merlins defeated Brotherhood F 7-3, John Harvey and Sam Plummer unbeaten, with Ruby Gallagher defeating JJ Barry 11-7, 7-11, 10-12, 13-11, 11-7 for the Merlins’ seventh point. Barry, with Tom Bryden, won the doubles 13-11, 8-11, 12-10, 8-11, 11-7 against Harvey and Gallagher to end the Merlins’ unbeaten doubles record for the season.

It was also 7-3 for Brotherhood E against a Nomads Ocelots’ side playing with a guest. Rodney Betts’ two for the winners included a 14-12 in the decider win over Chris Wilmotte, whilst Daniel Grindrod won one and narrowly lost 11-7 in the fifth to Wilmotte. Brotherhood’s Lucy Carvell had an encouraging 7-11, 15-13, 11-7, 12-10 win over Hazel Blanche.
