A group which brings people together every week through table tennis has held a successful first public fun day, with more than 80 participants.
Altrincham Table Tennis Social Group is a non-profit organisation which aims to help newcomers from Hong Kong settle and thrive in the Greater Manchester area.
Working with Table Tennis England and other local partners such as Trafford Leisure and the local council, the group has organised more than 45 social table tennis sessions every Saturday afternoon since January 2022.
Earlier this month, it hosted the Altrincham Table Tennis Fun Day, attracting more than 80 people to join in. Participants are pictured above (photo by Marie-Anne Ventoura).
Harry, on behalf of the ATTSG committee, said the group had started with the belief that the social table tennis sessions would create opportunities for Hong Kongers to meet new friends in the UK and foster a stronger relationship and bonding with the local community.
He added: “Our goal is to provide a safe and friendly environment for the table tennis players to play together and make friends. In future, we are committed to continuing working with the local partners and organising more activities related to table tennis, such as tournaments for the community.”
Table Tennis England Partnerships Manager, Colin Eley, said: “Altrincham Table Tennis Social Group has made tremendous progress to date, providing sessions for communities in Greater Manchester and wider.
“These sessions and the fun day further strengthen our belief that table tennis has the ability to engage a range of audiences from different backgrounds and different abilities.
“The future looks bright for ATTSG and we’re excited to continue our relationship to further expand their engagement and volunteer development.”
