Following on from the Table Tennis England Centenary last year, 2023 is the turn of a number of leagues around the country to stage their own centenary festivities.

The updated list for all leagues with their original founding dates, where known, is attached below. The leagues which celebrate their centenaries this year are: Birmingham & District (12 January 1923), Bournemouth & District (27 August 1923), Cheltenham (January 1923), Dudley (1923) and the Isle of Wight (1923). No specific dates are known for the last three.

Seven leagues will also be celebrating their 75th anniversary this year, those being Banbury, Braintree, Brentwood, Devizes, Diss, South East Hampshire and Trafford.

If your league is planning anything in this respect for 2023, we would be really pleased to hear from you with your account and any accompanying photographs so that we may add them to our archives.

If you would like any help with your research then the Archives, Museum and Records Committee will endeavour to assist. Contact Chairman, Diane Webb, on [email protected] or telephone 01424 216342.

Please send any reports or photographs to Diane, copying [email protected]

The committee is also looking for anyone who can help with scanning archive material including programmes and handbooks. If you would be interested, please contact Diane.

Many thanks to John Ruderham for his continued work in establishing formation dates for leagues up and down the country.

Yorkshire County TTA

Work has already begun on preparing a history and if you can help with any material – anecodotes, photographs, reports, magazines (eg The White Rose) or anything you think may be of interest, Richard Scruton, Yorkshire CTTA President, would like to hear from you. He can be contacted at [email protected] or telephone 07870 197754.
