Prize money at the Mark Bates Ltd National Championships is doubling thanks to an additional injection of investment from the sponsor.

The men’s and women’s singles champions will take home twice as much money from the event at the University of Nottingham next month, as part of an across-the-board uplift which takes the total prize fund from £6,420 to £13,080 and sees the rewards available to athletes across singles, doubles, para and under-21 events at least double in every category.

The investment delivers on a pledge made by Mark Bates Ltd in 2020, when prize money was raised by 25% and the company committed to increase it further during its five-year partnership with Table Tennis England.

Mark Bates, Managing Director of Mark Bates Ltd, said: “We’re delighted to have increased the prize money, which we hope will  create additional excitement as the players battle to win the titles.

“Becoming a national champion takes a huge investment of time, commitment and hard work and I think it is only right that we continue to try and increase the prize money available to the athletes.

“I can’t wait to see the best players in the country in action at the Championships, it’s always one of my favourite events in the calendar.”

“Such enhancements are not possible without the great support of Mark Bates and his team, and I am extremely appreciative of their energy and commitment to be on this journey with us.

“I very much hope this increase will provide even greater inspiration for the players, and I look forward to welcoming our members and fans to what I know will be another great Championships.”
