We were delighted to welcome our friends from Societechy to the recent Mark Bates Ltd National Championships to showcase the StreetTT app.
The app was created by Societechy during the pandemic to enable people to connect and play table tennis outdoors and in a safe way when indoor play was not an option.
Table Tennis England has worked with Societechy since the app was first launched and funded targeted pilot projects, before expanding the project last year.
StreetTT had a presence in the fanzone at the Nationals, which proved popular and inspired a large number of sign-ups to the app.
Players also challenged each other, with more than 30 matches played during the event, and the three players who achieved the best win ratings during the Nationals were invited to take the applause and stand on the podium on Finals Day – their names are Brad, Prem and Bowie and they are pictured above.
Louis Cadier, Societechy CEO and founder of StreetTT said: “Our presence at the fanzone was awesome and it was reassuring to see great interest for the app, especially in the 16-24 age range. It was great to see our players rewarded at the finals.
Brad, who plays in the Leeds League with Pudsey TTC, used the app for first time at the fanzone snd said: “I think it is a very cool idea and designed to get people to play, I would highly recommend anyone who loves table tennis to try it.”
Prem, who started playing table tennis after watching his dad play in a competition, is coached by EBaTT. He said: “Thank you for introducing me to StreetTT, I love how it is available to everyone, can be played by anyone, it is like chess.com but for table tennis.”
Bowie, who plays StreetTT in Manchester, so when she used the app to join the table at the fanzone, the rating she had built up took her straight to the top of the ranking. She said: “StreetTT is so much fun, I can create my own events, upload videos and submit the match results.”
