Ralph Pattison reached the under-15 quarter-finals and Dimitar Dimitrov was second in the round-robin under-11s at the WTT Youth Contender Panagyurishte in Bulgaria.

Pattison lost a group match to an opponent from Chinese Taipei, but still made the knockouts, where victories over opponents from Romania and Israel put him into the last eight.

He faced a familiar foe in Kuo Guan-Hong of Chinese Taipei, the second seed, who had beaten Pattison on his way to winning the Youth Contender in Spain last week.

The outcome was again the same – and Pattison may be forgiven for preferring to avoid his opponent in the near future, having also lost to him in the last 32 of the under-17 singles in Bulgaria.

In the under-11s, Dimitrov won three of his four matches, including one against a namesake representing Bulgaria, to finish second behind winner Aras Aydin of Turkey. Dimitrov went out in the group stage of the under-13 singles.

In the girls’ events, Yat Poon went out in the under-19s’ group stage with two defeats, including to Japan’s Rin Mende, who went on to win the competition.
