Red Black Green was directed by family friend and fellow player Naphat Boonyaprapa for TTE.TV and will be available to watch on the channel soon as part of the TT Insider series.

It tells the story of a family steeped in the sport and how twins Connor and Anna and their older sister Erin have grown up with table tennis and the successes they have had.

Connor is the national under-21 champion, while Erin & Anna were the Women’s Doubles silver medallists at the Mark Bates Ltd Senior Nationals last season – and all three have age group national titles to their name.

The film was made by Naphat and his production company Foot In The Door with production support, including supply of tournament footage, from Table Tennis England.

The film is now available to watch on TTE.TV, and director Naphat intends to submit it to various film festivals and awards too.

While GB Potential squad member Connor is the central focus, Red Black Green also details the support all three Green siblings have had from their parents and from coaches at Draycott & Long Eaton Table Tennis Club, where they learned their skills.

Naphat said: “For me, Connor is one of the most interesting stories to come out of the club and one of the most interesting that I’ve seen in table tennis.

“I’ve seen him grow from six or seven years old to under-21 national champion and he’s won every single national title from under 11 to under 21 – it’s incredible.

“I wanted to tell a story that was personal for me. I’ve known him for longer than a decade and he’s always been a constant reminder of what table tennis can be and what you can achieve when you have that drive and humility.”

An audience of more than 100 enjoyed the film’s premiere at The Arc Cinema in Nottingham, the Greens’ hometown, though Naphat admits it was not the most enjoyable experience for him personally.

“I was stressed the whole time, I’m not going to lie,” he said, “with 110 people watching your work, Connor watching it for the first time as well.

“I saw little things I’d change and improve upon – I was criticising myself the whole time. But even if I thought it wasn’t perfect, a lot of people really enjoyed it and to see people enjoying it was rewarding.”

Table Tennis England Digital Engagement Manager Jack Ramful and TTE.TV Content Creator Chloe Ireland supported the film’s production.

Jack said: “We’d identified the story of Connor, Erin and Anna as something we wanted to feature as a TT Insider piece, and then Naphat approached us asking for some footage because he’d had a similar idea for a story he wanted to tell.

“We had a look at some of his other work and it was obvious he had film-making talent, so we were happy to work with him to produce a film which we could host on TTE.TV but which Naphat could also enter into film awards.

“It was amazing to see the film on the big screen and I know TTE.TV viewers will enjoy it too.”

Naphat added: “Working with Table Tennis England has been incredible – the support with archive footage which was really good quality, so putting it in the film wasn’t a problem, and the fast responses were really helpful too.

“Chloe did an incredible job suggesting edits and tying up all the loose ends. I’ve really enjoyed having that opportunity to tell a story we all believe in.”
