Connor Green endured a tough day at the Youth Star Contender Doha as he was knocked out of the Under-19 Boys’ Singles without winning a match.
Green was the third-ranked player in his group in a strong event and started against the World No 12 Alan Kurmangaliyev of Kazakhstan. It was well poised at one game apiece, but his opponent took the next two close games.
Green, currently ranked 76, went on to lose in three straight to lower-ranked Ebrahim Gubran of Yemen and to world No 34 Milosz Redzimski of Poland.
In the doubles, Green lined up with India’s Payas Jain, but they went out to a Chinese pair in the quarter-finals.
Green & Sophie Earley will compete in the Mixed Doubles later in the competition, while Earley has Under-19 Girls’ Singles to look forward to, plus the Girls’ Doubles alongside Dominika Wiltschkova of Slovakia.
