Great Britain’s Anna Hursey has soared 57 places in the senior world rankings and now stands just outside the top 100.
The Welsh teenager climbed from 163 to 106 on the back of her brilliant run to the final of the WTT Feeder Doha event last week.
Guided by coach Joh Murphy, she started with a 3-0 win over South Korea’s Yoo Yerin in the last 64 and backed it up with victories over Liu Hsing-Yin (TPE, WR 56), Charlotte Lutz (FRA, WR 99), Ng Wing Lam (HKG, WR 116) and, in the semi-finals, Zhu Chengzhu of China, the world No 52.
The quarter-final against Ng featured the remarkable scoreline of 3-2 (11-6, 7-11, 8-11, 24-22, 11-9) as Hursey saved six match points, while also missing nine game points of her own, in the fourth.
In the final, against Singapore’s Zeng Jian (WR 63), it proved one step too far for Hursey as she was defeated in three straight.
