Dimitar Dimitrov reached the under-11 final at the WTT Youth Contender Cuenca in Ecuador, losing to the top seed.
The Futures Squad member, one of only a handful of European players competing at the event, won all three group matches 3-0 and received a bye through the quarter-finals. He then defeated Josue Perez of the host nation in four in the semi-finals.
The final was between the top two seeds and Dimitrov was beaten in three close games by another Ecuadorian, Boris Nestor Villavicencio, the higher-ranked of the two.
In the under-13s, Dimitrov advanced to the knockouts with two wins from three in the groups, and went on to reach the quarter-finals, where he was beaten by the eye-catching score of 20-18 in a decider by the higher-ranked Matias Baldeon of the host nation.
