Ormesby cemented their place at the top of the SBL Premier Division thanks to a convincing win over Fusion. New signing Radoslav Kamberov was named player of the match after a staggering performance in which he didn’t drop a set across his two singles ties and doubles match.

Fusion started the day dreaming of an upset after picking up an early win with Shaquille Webb Dixon beating Graeme Barella in four. Ormesby however soon got a real foothold in the fixture as Kamberov and Jose Enio Mendes showed their quality. They eased to a series of 3-0 wins that was only interrupted by a hugely impressive win for Fusion’s Larry Trumpauskas. He was eventual winner of a thrilling five set match against Barella, but by that point Ormesby had wrapped up the overall win.

Elsewhere TableTennisDaily celebrated their first Premier Division win of the season as they edged past Drumchapel Glasgow in a brilliant tie. Played across one table at the PingPod in Bristol the lively crowd were treated to some brilliant play.

Callum Evans and Umair Mauthoor opened with wins against Danny Bajwa and Garry Dodd respectively. Dodd pushed Mauthoor hard, with the home player winning the final two sets 11-7 to give TTD a 2-0 lead in the tie.

Dodd then teamed up with Victor Guang Shi to take the doubles in three and give Drumchapel Glasgow a route back into the fixture. Daniel Ives had other ideas however, as he overcame Victor Guang Shi in four to put the home side on the verge of their first win of the year. Evans held on to crucial points in the following match, with two 12-10 wins setting up a 3-1 victory against Dodd to move the tie beyond Drumchapel Glasgow’s reach.

In the final two matches Danny Bajwa beat Ives before a tense five set win for Victor Guang Shi left the final score at 4-3.

In the day’s other fixture Brighton swept aside North Ayrshire with a resounding 6-1 victory. The south-coast side were led by eventual player of the match David Andersson. He started the day with a win over Colin Dalgleish, but the advantage was quickly cancelled out as Hugo Torngren beat Ihor Zavadskyi. 

That would turn out to be the final NATTC win of the tie. Joseph Langham-Ferreira notched two singles wins, both in battling five set games that could’ve gone either way. Andersson was impressive as he beat Torngren in four and Zavadskyi edged out Martin Johnson, also in four. 

The 6-1 scoreline doesn’t do justice to the tight moments across the fixture, North Ayrshire were unable to clinch crucial points throughout.

Premier Division action returns in just two weeks with five matches to be played across 16th and 17th December. Ormeau will be back in action, hosting Fusion and BATTS across the weekend. Ormesby will hope to extend their winning run as they welcome second-place Brighton TTC to the North-East. North Ayrshire will travel to TableTennisDaily and Drumchapel Glasgow will be hoping for their first win of the campaign when they play BATTS.
