Tin-Tin Ho put in a superb performance to beat a top-60 player and get through to the third qualifying round at the WTT Star Contender Doha.

Up against South Korea’s Choi Hyojoo (WR 59), Ho (WR 164) took the first 11-9. The next two were protracted games in which both players had chances to win – Choi ultimately took the second 16-14 and Ho the third 15-13.

The Korean levelled again with an 11-6 margin in the fourth, before another deuce game saw Ho come out on top 14-12, missing match points at 10-9 and 11-10 but saving one at 11-12 before finally prevailing.

Tin-Tin, who beat the world No 87 in the first qualifying round, faced another tough task in the in the third and final qualifying round, with a place in the main draw at stake, as she took on Li Yu-Jhun of Chinese Taipei (WR 65).

And she could not find a repeat performance as she was defeated 3-0 (11-4, 11-7, 11-6).

Ho & Tom Jarvis were beaten in the Mixed Doubles, but Liam Pitchford & Anna Hursey went through to the main draw.

Pitchford & Hursey defeated Manav Thakkar & Archana Kamath of India in four, with the match turning on the third game, won 15-13 by the British pair, who missed three game points and then saved one before taking their next chance to claim it.

Jarvis & Ho held their own against Yiu Kwan To & Ng Wing Lam of Hong Kong, winning the first and fourth games and saving a match point in the latter, before losing the decider 11-4.

In the Men’s Singles, Paul Drinkhall was defeated in three straight by Cho Daeseong of South Korea (WR 87) in the second qualifying round.

Ho & Hursey were beaten in three in the second qualifying round of the Women’s Doubles by Romania’s Adina Diaconu & Spain’s Maria Xiao.
