Toby Ellis (pictured above) won the Under-18 Boys’ category at the Safir International in Sweden, beating compatriot Connor Green on the way and recovering from 2-0 in the final.
It was 3-2 (5-11, 11-9, 11-7, 6-11, 11-8) to Ellis in the all-England meeting in the quarter-finals, and he went on to beat Noa Dahlstrom 3-1 (8-11, 11-9, 11-9, 11-8) in the semis and Jakob Torner 3-2 (9-11, 9-11, 11-7, 11-4, 11-8) to take the final.
Larry Trumpauskas also reached the quarter-finals, losing in four to Torner, while Felix Thomis got to the last 16.
Rohan Dani, Francesco Bonato, Joe Dennison, Ben Piggott, Keiran Walker, Hugo Nguyen, Ralph Pattison, Leo Nguyen and Adam Dennison also reached the knockout stage.
Trumpauskas was runner-up in the Men’s Singles Class 1, losing out in three (8, 7, 9) to Nathan Lam in the final. Trumpauskas had beaten Dani 3-2 (11-7, 11-8, 7-11, 12-14, 11-7) in the semi-finals. Akindiya and Adam Dennison reached the last 16.
In the corresponding women’s category, Sienna Jetha was runner-up, losing 3-0 (11-8, 11-7, 12-10) to Berenice Marteau from France. Marteau had defeated Ella Pashley in the semi-finals, while Jetha beat Scarlett Anders at the same stage. Anna Green and Mabel Shute went out earlier in the knockouts, Green beaten by the champion.
In the elite men’s competition, Trumpauskas, Green and Thomis all went out in the round of 16. Trumpauskas was defeated by eventual champion Hampus Nordberg, Green by runner-up Shiyu Sun and Thomis by semi-finalist Elia Ranefur, who reached the final at WTT Feeder Manchester earlier this month.
Piggott, Pattison, Nahom Asgedom, Leo Nguyen and Ismaila Akindiya went out earlier in the knockout rounds, while Jesse Bath, Hugo Nguyen, Dani, Bonato, Josh Bruce and Ellis went out in the group stage.
In the women’s elite, Mabel Shute reached the last 16, where she was beaten in four by Enisa Sadikovic of Luxembourg. Anders and Pashley also reached the knockout stage. Anna Green and Jetha missed out on countback in the groups.
In the Under-20 Men’s, Green was a beaten semi-finalist, losing out 3-2 (7-11, 11-8, 11-7, 7-11, 11-6) to eventual champion Nathan Lam.
Thomis went out in the quarter-finals, while Trumpauskas reached the last 16. Dani, Keiran Walker, Joe Dennison, Piggott, Ellis, Leo Nguyen, Asgedom, Adam Dennison, Pattison and Bruce went out earlier in the knockouts – Pattison beaten by Thomis and Nguyen by Ellis.
Hugo Nguyen, Bath, Bonato and Pablo Ramirez-Rioja went out in the groups.
The Under-20 Women’s saw Pashley, Jetha and Anders all reach the last 16, Pashley going out 3-2 (8-11, 7-11, 12-10, 11-9, 11-4) to Leah Tveit Muskantor.
Shute and Anders were England’s best finishers in the Under-18 Girls, reaching the last 16, while Green, Jetha and Pashley also reached the knockout stage.
Joe Dennison was a semi-finalist in the Under-16 Boys, and Ramirez-Rioja reached the same stage in the Under-12 Boys.
