The Isle of Wight’s first schools tournament attracted 12 of the island’s junior schools and involved 120 children.
The IoW Association is keen to promote table tennis in the schools and there were some exciting encounters in the various matches.
In the end it was Greenmount School (green shirts) who came first with 25 points. Second was Newchurch School (blue shirts) with 22 points, with Somerfields third on 17 points.
Medals were presented by Elaine Mills (organiser) and 17-year-old Ryan Cates (the Island’s top junior player)
Alex Rorke (Chairman, IoW County Table Tennis Association) said: “The IoW County T.T. Association is delighted with the success of this tournament, which we believe to be the first IoW Schools event.
“We hope that these youngsters will continue to play and develop their skills, and we thank the schools, their staff and parents for their support, as well as those who organised this event,”
