Top seed Grigory Vlasov won the Men’s Singles and Hannah Silcock the Women’s Singles as the curtain came down on the Grand Prix era with this season’s London GP.

Vlasov (pictured above, photo by Michael Loveder) has been a multiple winner at individual Grands Prix down the years and added another to his collection, while Silcock was a double winner on the day, also taking the Under-21 Women’s Singles title.

Jaycee Chan also won two categories, and there were victories for father and son Lorestas and Larry Trumpauskas.

Men’s Singles

Top seed Grigory Vlasov won his third Grand Prix of the season as he defeated last year’s Gloucester finalist Radoslav Kamberov 3-1 (5-11, 11-8, 11-9, 11-6) in the final.

Vlasov, who had also won the Preston and Gloucester events this season, was in superb form earlier in the competition, breezing past a succession of opponents 3-0, culminating in an 11-2, 11-5, 11-3 victory over Crawley GP champion Josh Bennett in the semi-finals.

Kamberov’s semi-final opponent was Lorestas Trumpauskas, and it was a 3-1 (11-9, 11-9, 11-13, 11-5) victory for second seed Kamberov.

Women’s Singles

Mabel Shute (left) and Hannah Silcock

Hannah Silcock took the first leg of her double as she defeated Mabel Shute 3-0 (11-5, 11-8, 11-8) in the final.

It was 3-0 in the two semi-finals as Shute beat Rachael Iles 11-8, 11-6, 11-5 and Silcock defeated Lok Yee Lo 11-8, 12-10, 11-6.

Shute and Iles both had lengthy quarter-finals – Shute beating Lowri Hurd 3-2 (11-13, 11-8, 11-9, 7-11, 11-8) and Iles overcoming Larisa Ritievskaja 3-2 (11-7, 6-11, 11-9, 6-11, 11-9).

Restricted Singles

Mihai Nemaciuc (left) and Israel Awolaja

Mihai Nemaciuc overcame Israel Awolaja 3-0 (11-3, 11-6, 11-9) in the final.

Awolaja, who defeated Abdullah Ubaidullah 3-0 (7, 11, 11) in his semi-final, earlier had to come from behind to beat Jack Bennett 3-2 (11-4, 4-11, 8-11, 11-3, 11-6) in the quarters.

Nemaciuc defeated Bryan Kwan 3-0 (7, 7, 4) in the other semi-final – Kwan having had a good battle with Adam Jepson in the last eight, winning 3-2 (10-12, 11-7, 11-9, 4-11, 11-3).

Under-21 Men’s Singles

Larry Trumpauskas (left) and Nahom Asgedom

Larry Trumpauskas saw off Nahom Asgedom 3-1 (11-8, 11-6, 9-11, 11-3) to win the title.

The beaten semi-finalists were Jakub Piwowar, who lost 3-0 (11-9, 11-5, 11-8) to Trumpauskas, and Joseph Hunter, who was beaten 3-1 (6-11, 12-10, 12-10, 11-8) by Asgedom.

Hunter earlier came from 2-0 down to Janak Shah in the last 16, winning it 3-2 (8-11, 10-12, 12-10, 11-8, 11-8).

Under-21 Women’s Singles

Hannah Silcock took the title with a 3-1 (11-7, 9-11, 11-7, 11-4) final victory over Rachael Iles, to complete a double having won the Women’s Singles earlier in the day.

In the semi-finals, Silcock defeated Aleksandra Titievskaja 3-0 (11-7, 11-9, 13-11), while Iles saw off Mabel Shute 3-1 (11-13, 11-9, 11-7, 11-8).

Titievskaja had a good tussle with Lowri Hurd in the quarter-finals, prevailing 3-2 (11-9, 7-11, 9-11, 11-8, 11-4).

Veterans’ Singles

Lorestas Trumpauskas ensured both he and son Larry had a title to take home as he defeated Zoltan Hosszu 3-0 (11-7, 11-8, 11-7) in the final.

In the semis, Hosszu needed four to defeat Sanga Quamina (11-5, 9-11, 12-10, 11-2), while Trumpauskas win in three (5, 3, 11) against Hurey Ahmetoglu.

Women’s Band 1

Maliha Baig (left) and Lok Yee Lo

Lok Yee Lo beat Maliha Baig 3-0 (11-2, 11-8, 11-7) in the final to take the title, denying her opponent, who had earlier won Band 2, a double.

Both semi-finals were also decided in three as Baig beat Millie Rogove (7, 3, 11) and Lo saw off Rachael Iles (5, 4, 9).

Men’s Band 1

Dominic Sussex (left) and Alim Hirji

Alim Hirji edged a tight first game against Dominic Sussex before going on to clinch a 3-0 (16-14, 11-8, 11-8) victory in the final.

Both had dropped games in the semi-finals, Hirji overcoming Israel Awolaja 3-1 (11-7, 11-8, 6-11, 11-8) and Sussex needing all five to get past Luke Greenfield 3-2 (8-11, 11-5, 11-9, 9-11, 11-6).

Women’s Band 2

Maliha Baig (left) Kimmy Piu Lin Lai-Brown

Maliha Baig was a three-set winner over Kimmy Piu Lin Lai-Brown, who she had also beaten in the group stage. The final result was 11-6, 11-3, 11-7 in Baig’s favour.

In the semi-finals, Baig defeated Jurate Brazaityte 3-0 (11-3, 13-11, 11-8), while Lai-Brown beat Clare Styles 3-0 (11-4, 11-4, 12-10).

Men’s Band 2

Jonathan Lancry recovered from losing the first game of the final to defeat Ferenc Horvath in four (8-11, 11-9, 11-6, 11-5).

It was four games in both semi-finals as well – Lancry beat Emil Erkekov 11-5, 6-11, 14-12, 11-8, while it was 7-11, 11-8, 11-5, 11-4 for Horvath against Oliver Chu.

Women’s Band 3

Tulay Dundar (left) and Clare Styles

Tulay Dundar defeated Clare Styles 3-1 (11-4, 12-14, 12-10, 11-2) to win the title.

In the last four, Dundar defeated Sarah Hudson, while Styles got past Aneta Kula.

Men’s Band 3

Janak Shah (left) and Romayne Stewart

Romayne Stewart saw off Janak Shah 3-1 (11-6, 9-11, 11-3, 14-12) to take the title. Both had won their semi-finals in five games – Shah against Darius Xavier and Stewart against Lucien Boulet.

Xavier had had a close match back in the last 16, eventually staving off a comeback by John Payne to win 3-2 (11-6, 11-7, 9-11, 4-11, 12-10).

Women’s Band 4

Chui Lin Kwok finished runner-up in her group but then won three knockout-stage matches in three straight to take the title.

Her opponent in the final was Srishti Laskar, who had won the same group but who on this occasion was defeated by Kwok – 3-0 (11-6, 13-11, 11-9).

Laskar earlier came from behind to beat Anisha Rasan 3-2 (8-11, 11-8, 13-15, 11-9, 11-6) in the semi-finals. The other semi saw Kwok defeat Laura Marsh in three (8, 9, 9).

Men’s Band 4

Cain Fagan denied Band 3 winner Romayne Stewart the first leg of a possible double as he defeated his opponent 3-1 (11-4, 11-7, 5-11, 13-11) in the final.

Both semi-finals were decided in three straight as Fagan overcame Joe Britnell 7, 8, 4 and Stewart saw off Janak Shah, who he went on to beat in the Band 3 final, 9, 3, 6.

Stewart so nearly went out in the quarter-finals, finally getting through 3-2 (11-13, 11-13, 11-7, 11-6, 11-7) against Dan Bronziet.

Men’s Band 5

Jaycee Chan was champion for the second time on the day as he defeated Shaon Chapman 3-1 (11-3, 11-3, 8-11, 11-8) in the final to add to his Band 6 victory earlier in the day.

The two semi-finals were also decided in four games as Chan beat Noah Byrne-Smith and Chapman defeated Edward Baker.

Men’s Band 6

Jaycee Chan set up his on-the-day double with a 3-0 (11-3, 11-4, 13-11) victory over Kwun Yin Ng in the final.

Chan did not drop a game in the knockout phase, culminating in a semi-final victory over Arunn Sathasivam, By contrast, Ng was taken to five by both Noah Byrne-Smith in the last 16 and Edward Baker in the semi-finals.
