Phoebe O’Brien of Scarborough was the most successful player in the Ormesby Cadet 2 Star Championships that were played at the club on Teesside on July 7. 

Phoebe won the U13 girls’ singles by beating the player in second place, Harriet Goodwin of Ormesby, in straight games, in the group round-robin system. 

Phoebe was taken to four games by two Ormesby players,  Aliya Zhuzbayeva and Mila Gao. 

Phoebe’s second title was the U11 girls, where she beat Mindy Gao of Ormesby to take the title.

The U15 boys’ championship was won by Newcastle’s Adam Watson who won the title in a three-player countback with Ormesby’s Jack Buckley in second place and Charl Myburgh from NETTS in third place. 

Watson beat Myburgh in straight sets, while Myburgh beat Buckley 11-8 in the fifth. Buckley in turn defeated Watson by 3 games to 1.

The U15 boys, Band 2, was won by Charlie Furness from Northumberland who beat Philip Moss from NETTS, who finished second, by 3 games to 1.

The U11 boys’ singles was won by Darlington’s Isaac Davies who won all his matches in the group, with William Fieldhouse from Yorkshire finishing in second place, with the score 13-11 in the deciding game.
