Nine England players safely reached the singles knockout stages at the European Youth Championships in Malmo, joining three already seeded through to that stage.

Larry Trumpauskas (pictured above), Ben Piggott and Ralph Pattison all won through to join 21st seed Connor Green in the Junior Boys’ Singles main draw – Piggott winning his crucial group match against Vilius Kavaliauskas 13-11 in the decider. However, Isaac Kingham was unable to reach the knockouts.

There are some tough clashes ahead for the boys, as Trumpauakas faces 18th seed Wim Verdonschot of Germany, Pattison plays 18th seed Borna Petek of Croatia, while Piggott takes on 24th seed Isak Alfredsson from Sweden. Green will play Israel’s Uri Almor.

In the Junior Girls, Tianer Yu won her group, while Ella Pashley and Anna Green were runners-up in theirs. None of them will face seeded players in the first round, though Pashley and Green both face higher-ranked opponents.

In the Cadet Boys, Kacper Piwowar (#15) and Abraham Sellado (#24) were both seeded straight into the knockouts, and were joined by Adam Alibhai and Max Radiven, both as group runners-up.

Radiven and Alibhai are both in action in the first round today, with Piwowar and Sellado not coming in until the second round.

Sienna Jetha, competing in the Cadet Girls’ Singles having been part of the Junior team, won all three of her group matches – two of them in a fifth game – to set up a tie against seventh seed Nina Skerbinz of Austria in the first round.
