Team GB’s Liam Pitchford and Paris Olympics umpire Nico Caltabiano star in the latest podcast from the brains behind hit BBC show QI.

Quite a Good Sport is presented by Anna Ptaszynski and James Harkin, two of the ‘elves’ who come up with the questions on the TV show.

Table tennis is the second sport to come under their microscope, and they discuss everything from the different names given to the sport through the ages, the Ping Pong Diplomacy tour of China and the evolution from hardbat to sponge.

Along the way, James talks to Paris Olympics umpire Nico Caltabiano (pictured above officiating in Paris) about how to cope with the speed of the game and apply the rules at the same time.

And four-time Olympian Liam Pitchford talks to Anna about how he got into the sport, his style of play and how the game has changed in the last 10 years.

The podcast ends with a visit to a public table in London’s Soho Square to apply what they have learned to a match between the two presenters.
