Max Radiven is celebrating winning three gold medals for Great Britain at the European Maccabi Youth Games, while Kai Shalson won two golds and a silver.
England National Training Squad member Radiven won the singles, doubles and team competitions at the event, hosted in Hatfield, which brings together competitors from the Jewish community to compete in eight sports.
Radiven and fellow Londoner Shalson first won the team competition, winning all four of their matches against opposition from Denmark, two German teams and another British team. Germany I and Germany II took the other medals.
The pair also won the doubles competition, defeating Oskar Oberberger & Hannah Stolyar of Germany 3-1 (11-3, 11-2, 7-11, 11-7) in the final.
Radiven & Shalson had defeated fellow Brits Coby Greenberg & Monty Super 3-0 (11-6, 11-6, 11-8) in the semi-finals. Greenberg & Super were beaten in the bronze medal play-off, 3-0 (11-7, 11-9, 11-8) by Alan Ginsburg & Samuel Weber of Germany.
In the singles, Radiven and Shalson both advanced to reach the final without dropping a game, meaning the winner would clinch a golden hat-trick. And it was Radiven who prevailed, sealing a 3-0 (11-4, 11-4, 11-7) victory.
In the semi-finals, Radiven defeated Stolyar 3-0 (11-7, 11-5, 11-0), while Shalson beat Weber 3-0 (11-8, 11-7, 11-6) – Stolyar went on to win the play-off for bronze 3-2 (11-9, 11-9, 11-13, 5-11, 11-6).
Radiven said: “There were about 800 competitors from many sports who came from Europe, North America, South America and Africa, all staying on one campus. It was an amazing experience and I made many new friends.
“Playing the table tennis and winning the three gold medals was the icing on the cake for me.”
