Dimitar Dimitrov and Alyssa Nguyen secure top-20 finishes at the Euro Mini Championships, while Amber Lemmon also reached the main draw.

The annual tournament in Schiltigheim, France, saw nine English girls and boys take on players from around the French regions, as well as an international contingent. All the players were born in 2011 or 2013. More than 400 young athletes competed.

The tournament has multiple group stages as players battle to reach the knockouts, with those who don’t make it that far dropping into consolation events.

Dimitrov (pictured above) was the highest-placed English finisher in 11th position for boys born in 2013. He won all 10 of his group matches across four stages and then won in the round of 32, before he was defeated 3-2 (15-13, 10-12, 11-6, 10-12, 11-7) by David Drobov of Ukraine in the last 16.

Playing for positions 9-16, he won two of his three matches to finish in 11th. In the same age group, Li Hao Chen finished in ninth place in the consolation event.

Nguyen won through to the knockout stage in the competition for girls born in 2011, being beaten 3-2 (8-11, 11-6, 11-6, 7-11, 11-8) by Ceren Kahraman of Turkiye in the last 32. Playing for positions 17-32, she won two matches and then lost two to end in 20th position.

Hannah Saunders and Violet-Lily Marquis picked up some good results in the same age category, reaching the third group stage and ultimately finishing fifth and 15th respectively in the consolation event.

Lemmon was England’s sole competitor in the 2013 girls’ competition and she made her way into the knockouts with a 100% record across three group stages. She was defeated in the last 32, 3-0 (11-5, 11-8, 11-9) by Louise Lounas (Ile de France). In the 17-32 bracket, she won two and lost two to finish in 26th place.

In the 2011 boys, Pablo Ramirez Rioja and Aarav Parihar both go through to the fourth and final group stage before being eliminated. They dropped into the consolation event, where Ramirez Rioja finished sixth and Parihar 16th.

Ryan Goodier did not advance past the first group stage, winning one match and losing the other two 11-9 in the fifth. He ended up equal 49th in the consolation event, winning five of his six group matches to finish second, with only group winners going into the consolation knockout.
