The National Series, a brand-new competition in the calendar designed to provide a consistent and high-quality competitive environment for the nation’s top youth players, is underway. This prestigious series for U13s, U15s and U19s, boys and girls hosts several divisions in a high-stake round-robin format, with each player facing every other competitor in their division, leading to promotion and relegation between divisions, after each round.

The inaugural season of the National Series kicked off at the weekend, at its three host venues: Draycott & Long Eaton TTC, St Neots TTC, and Joola Plymouth TTC. This first weekend saw intense matches across the various age groups, with the young players showing great promise and competitive spirit and you can read more from each age group below.

The National Series will continue across three more weekends, culminating in February 2025, where the champions of each division will be crowned after a season of hard-fought battles.

U13 Girls – Division 1

The U13 Girls Division 1 kicked off with a series of competitive matches that set the tone for the rest of the competition. Maisha Patel emerged as the standout performer of the weekend, winning all her matches, not dropping a single game in the process. Her flawless performance earned her the top spot in the standings and 8 points.

Serene Rahmani-Walentynska also had a strong showing, securing three victories and losing just one. Her efforts placed her second in the division, earning 7 points. Phoebe O’Brien rounded out the top three, winning two matches and collecting 6 points.

In Division 2, the competition was remarkably close, with three players—Isabelle Bradly, Sakinah Damji, and Rozlyn Susan Payne—finishing the weekend with identical records. Each secured two wins and one loss, making it a tight race at the top. All three players ended with 7 games won and 4 games lost, reflecting the highly competitive nature of this division.

Isabelle Bradly ultimately took the top spot by virtue of game ratio and points, with Sakinah Damji and Rozlyn Susan Payne closely following in second and third place, respectively. Despite their best efforts, Nyasha Roberts faced tough competition and was unable to secure a win, finishing fourth.

Players Aeyva Fayaz and Naomi Adeji did not complete their matches, which impacted their standings in this round.

In the first division of the U13 Boys, Rishaan Sawant and Lewis Wu led the charge, both securing three victories. However, it was Sawant who clinched the top spot, boasting a slightly better game ratio, having won 11 games, losing only 5. Wu was close behind, with 10 games won and 7 lost, but ultimately had to settle for second place.

The division was tough on Saisurya Prasanna Kumar, who couldn’t manage to win a match, ending the weekend with 12 games lost and just one game won, leaving him in the fifth spot. Li Hao Chen did not compete, thus ranking last in the standings.

Mustafa Ibrahim also had a strong showing, securing three wins and one loss to finish second, while his brother, Taha Shamakh, rounded out the top three with two wins and two losses.

Zacharia Sarri did not compete, leaving him at the bottom of the standings.

Samvit Balaji secured the third position with three wins, while Thomas Ellis managed to take fourth place against tough competition.

There were no matches in the U15 Girls Division 1 during the first weekend of the National Series due to a clash with the international schedule. Several top players were representing their country abroad, leading to the postponement of their domestic fixtures. The division will resume in the next round, where these elite players will showcase their skills against the nation’s best.

U15 Girls – Division 2

In Division 2, Soraya Rahmani-Walentynska proved to be the player to beat, winning all four of her matches and securing the top position. Her strong performances across the weekend saw her win 12 games and lose only 4, earning her 8 points and putting her at the top of the standings. Evie Knaapen followed closely, finishing second with three wins and one loss. Knaapen’s consistency across her matches earned her 11 games won and 6 games lost, with 7 points overall.

Zoe Gonpot did not participate in the matches, leaving her at the bottom of the table.

Nishil Shah managed to clinch the top spot, thanks to a slightly better game ratio, winning 11 games and losing 9. Theo Kniep and Noah Byrne-Smith closely followed, each with 11 games won but differing in their losses. Oscar Nikolli also performed well, finishing fourth, while Sinan Surensoy and Ryan Holland rounded out the group.
