Andrew Baggaley beat a player more than 500 places higher than him in the world rankings as he reached the last 32 of the WTT Feeder Panagyurishte.

On a rare appearance on the WTT circuit, Baggaley, currently ranked at #761, reached the main draw with two 3-2 victories in qualifying. Both were 11-9 in the fifth, the second against Jan Valenta of Czechia (WR 417).

The Milton Keynes player carried his form into the main draw, defeating world No 244 Keishi Hagihara of Japan in four games in the last 64.

That set up a match against Germany’s Kay Stumper (WR 125) in the last 32 on Friday evening. It again went the distance, and Baggaley led 2-1, but the German lifted his game to take the next two games, both 11-5, to advance to the last 16.

Baggaley also qualified for the main draw of the Men’s Doubles, alongside Austria’s Alexander Chen, defeating a pair from Chen’s homeland in qualifying.

They were defeated in the last 16 by Chinese pair Zeng Beixun & Zhou Kai.
