At the inaugural Graham Spicer Under-15 1* tournament on there were 24 boys and seven girls all playing for ranking points and Bribar cheques, with 24 players from Surrey and the rest from Kent, Middlesex, Essex, Hertfordshire and Somerset.
Boys’ Band 1
The top seed was Benjamin Willis (pictured above) of Kent. Even though he had to play three long pimple players in his group he still won all five of his matches on the day, losing only three sets all told.
Mateusz Niedzielak of Surrey came second, winning four of five matches, and Louis Green of Essex was third. Middlesex’s Lucio Wen’s match with Benjamin was close as Benjamin won 3-1 (11-5, 18-16, 10-12, 11-6)
Girls’ Band 1
In the girls’ event, top seed Eunice Lok Yiu Lam was on fine form, dropping just one set and winning all six matches.
Second seed and second-placed Alena Bondar came closest with Eunice winning 3-1 (11-8, 9-11, 11-6, 11-6).
Third place was a real battle as Phoebe Chan beat third seed Chui-Ha Wong 3-2 (12-10, 4-11, 11-7, 6-11, 11-9).
Boys’ Band 2
Surrey’s Hojeong Yoon won the Boys’ Band 2 event. Second was Thomas Orbach Otterbu of Middlesex whose wins included two five-set matches. Third place went to Leo Gardener of Surrey.
Boys’ Band 3
In the Boys’ Band 3 both Kai Drake of Hertfordshire and Henry Markall of Somerset had four out of five wins but Kai topped the group as he beat Henry in their head-to-head match.
Oliver Willis of Kent came third – both he and Seiji Ngai of Surrey had three wins but Oliver won their match. Seiji had a great win to beat Kai 3-2 (15-13, 11-6, 1-11, 4-11, 14-12).
Boys’ Band 4
Ashvin Waegner of Surrey won the Boys’ Band 4. Both he and Rex Morgan of Surrey won four of five matches but Ashvin won the match between the two of them, meaning Rex came second.
Kaden Gallagher and Priyansh Solanki both won three matches but Kaden came third as he won their head-to-head match.
Kumiko Williams was the Tournament Referee, Pawel Meryn was the Tournament Organiser and they were assisted by Jane Barella, Patrick Caunt and Chris Andrews.
