Double Paralympic bronze medallist Bly Twomey has the chance to continue her meteoric rise at the first Under-21 National Cup this weekend.
The 14-year-old from Brighton became Paralympics GB’s youngest ever table tennis medallist in Paris, getting on to the podium alongside Fliss Pickard in the Women’s Class 14 Doubles and then repeating the feat in the Women’s Class 7 Singles.
As ninth seed, Twomey will have a difficult task to get into the medal shake-up at the National Cup, which sees 10 of the highest-ranked players compete on a round-robin basis to decide the medallists.
Leading the female seedings is Mari Baldwin, ahead of Sophie Earley – both have featured on the senior WTT circuit. Ella Pashley and Sienna Jetha, who both competed for England at the European Youth Championships during the summer, are next in the seedings.
On the male side, Under-21 national champion Connor Green is the top seed, followed by Toby Ellis, Larry Trumpauskas and Louis Price, all of whom have also previously tasted victory at National Championships or Nationals Cups.
The Under-21 National Cup was launched this season to aid retention and provide a valuable competition opportunity to this priority cohort in England. It takes place at the BATTS club in Harlow across the weekend.
