Tianer Yu reached the last 16 in two age groups at the WTT Youth Contender Dubai.

The 16-year-old got through her groups in both the Under-19 and Under-17 Girls’ Singles, and went on to notch a good 3-2 win over a South Korean opponent in the last 32 of the younger age group. She was then defeated by world No 15 Junior Choi Seoyeon, also of South Korea, in the last 16.

In the Under-19s, Yu, currently ranked No 129 on the Junior list, was defeated by No 48 Wong Hoi Tung of Hong Kong in five games.

Yu had earlier competed at the WTT Youth Star Contender Doha, but was unable to get through the Under-19 group stage, though she took at least one game in all three matches, including two against opponents in the top 50.
