England’s influence in the international table tennis community is growing following elections at the European Table Tennis Union Congress.

At the Congress, held during the European Championships in Austria, a number of candidates for important roles have been proposed from England and other Home Nations.

Portugal’s Pedro Moura was elected President of the ETTU, and the elections were also focused on the ETTU Executive Board and European representation on the ITTF Council – and it is in those positions where England achieved great success.

Adrian Christy, CEO, said: “We are delighted that Sandra Deaton was elected to the ETTU Executive Board unopposed and now continues the great finance work she has led in her first term in office.

“We are also delighted to have secured our first ITTF Council position since 2016 (subject to it being ratified by the ITTF AGM in May 2025) when Richard Scruton polled the joint highest number of votes.

“The home nations position was boosted further when Scotland’s Phil McCallum was also elected to the ITTF Council.

“It’s been a really positive outcome to the elections and we continue to strengthen our support to the growth of table tennis. We look forward to learning the outcome of our nominations to the wider Committee structure over the coming weeks.”

Also at the Congress, Richard Scruton was awarded ETTU Honorary Membership, received by a standing ovation by delegates.
