The iconic Copper Box will be rocking again when some of the world’s best table tennis players compete at the WTT Star Contender London next October.

World Table Tennis (WTT) today confirmed the competition as part of its 2025 event series and will take place from 20-26 October at the venue on London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

WTT Star Contender London 2025 is another major step in our strategy and follows confirmation of the WTT Feeder Manchester 2025 next April.

The Copper Box – which earned the reputation as The Box That Rocks during the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics – is no stranger to top-level table tennis, having hosted the 2018 Team World Cup in front of sell-out crowds.

Table Tennis England CEO, Adrian Christy, said: “We are delighted to be staging another event in 2025 as we extend the opportunities for our members and fans to see world-class, international table tennis in this country.
“A key part of our Table Tennis United strategy is making our sport more visible, and the development of a major event series is critical to that ambition, and I would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to our city partners and venues who have been so supportive in helping to bring the series to life.

“WTT Star Contender London will be the second event we stage in 2025 and will bring some of the best players in the world to London ahead of the World Team Table Tennis Championships in the capital in April/May 2026.”

What is a WTT Star Contender?

Star Contenders are part of the WTT Series, sitting in between WTT Contender and WTT Champions.

They last five days, though can be extended to a maximum of eight days if qualifying rounds are required before the main draw.

They typically have prize money of around USD$250,000.

The main draws of the singles feature 48 players made up of players eligible via the world rankings – including up to six from the world’s top 20 – plus host wildcards and WTT-nominated players (who can also be from the top 20).

In addition to singles, all three doubles competitions (men’s, women’s, mixed) are included.
