Tianer Yu warmed up for the Mark Bates Ltd National Championships by defeating the world No 29 Junior at the WTT Youth Contender Berlin.
Yu, ranked at 141, saw off Poland’s Karolina Holda in three straight in the Under-19 Girls’ Singles group stage as she reached the main draw as group winner.
After a bye in the last 64, she defeated Spain’s Mariona Munne (WR 268) in the last 32, before going out in the last 16 to eventual bronze medallist Veronika Matiunina of Ukraine (WR 61) in four games.
