DiSE programme
The Diploma in Sporting Excellence (DiSE) programme is for performance players in full-time further education
About the programme
DiSE is a two-year programme that gives the opportunity for current and aspiring performance players aged 16-18 who are in full time further education to access the Diploma in Sporting Excellence (DiSE) programme. This is a government-funded scheme designed to directly measure a players’ ability to plan, apply, and evaluate their development in a performance context. Players that successfully complete the two-year programme will receive 64 UCAS points that they use towards entry into university.
The programme is made up of two main areas:
Training opportunities
Players will be brought together for training weekends led by the DiSE Programme Lead, supported by wider Performance staff. The camps will include both on the table training and off the table work, including physical training, and workshop-based activities. There will be approximately 4-5 training camps per season, and where deemed appropriate, additional training and competition opportunities in the UK or abroad. The DiSE lead will support the player to develop their own individual athlete plan to support their performance and wider development.
Education
Players will complete a portfolio of work which focuses on multiple elements of performance sport (for example, nutrition, goal setting, programme planning, lifestyle, and psychology)to clearly demonstrate and evidence how they are applying this learning to their daily training programmes. The programme will bring in specialist tutors and experts to talk through different aspects of performance sport.
The programme covers a range of modules including:
- Strength and conditioning
- Psychology
- Nutrition
- Media and communication skills
- Career development
- Lifestyle management
