With last season’s champions London Academy dropping down the divisions to help with their youth development, the destination of the title looks quite open.

Last season’s runners-up – and hosts – Nottingham will have designs on going one better, and they have a similar squad led by Ollie Cornish and Joe Sawyer.

Wymondham were close behind Nottingham in third last season and they have recruited Umair Mauthoor from TableTennisDaily to augment a squad which also includes fellow top-100 players Adam Fuzes, Isaac Kingham, Israel Awolaja and James Hobson.

Ormeau, who dropped out of the Premier Division at the end of last season, will rely largely on a crop of home-grown players, including talented youngster Peadar Sheridan, but they can still call upon Mat Ware at the top of their order.

Two clubs whose first teams are in the Premier Division – BATTS and Ormesby – are also back and will be able to field some good-quality line-ups.

The same can be said of Urban and Perry Dale, who both finished in mid-table last season – the latter have registered Paralympian and NHS doctor Kim Daybell.

As well as Ormeau, there are three more new teams this season in the shape of Wensum, Milton Keynes and Woodford Wells, who all come up from the tier below.

Wensum will be led by Senior Women’s No 15 Lauren Charles, while Woodford Wells have two top-40 male players in Bryan Kwan and Vladimir Pandurevic. Milton Keynes have brought in teenaged top-40 player Joseph Dennison to lead their campaign.

The weekend is the first of five throughout the season, and there will be four rounds of matches – two on Saturday and two on Sunday.

The three promoted teams have been handed tough matches in the first round of fixtures on Saturday – Wensum face Nottingham, Milton Keynes will play Wymondham and Woodford Wells are up against BATTS II.

The other opening-round matches see Urban take on Ormeau and Perry Dale meet Ormesby II.
