Over the last 7 months, I have been involved in the delivery of the schools competitions in the area for the first time and on Sunday 12th May it concluded, as the last of the schools competitions took place at the University of East London, SportDock.

The competition, in partnerships with the Jack Petchey Foundation, saw over 100 of the best young athletes in London & Essex compete for the coveted title.

To get to this stage the top 4 players qualified from their respective area in North, South, East, West, Central London and Essex.

On one of the hottest weekends of the year so far, the young people, really put on a show with some fantastic table tennis taking place. Congratulations to all of the winners and finalists!

Being involved in the team and individual competitions has been a great learning experience and at times has been a challenge.  The passion for table tennis at each of the events is one of the main things that sticks out. Whether it’s the will to win on the table or discussions to look for new ways to introduce table tennis by teachers, coaches, or parents, I’ve really enjoyed the interactions and buoyed for opportunities for table tennis to thrive in the area.

Finally, a massive thank you for everyone who has been involved in the qualifiers and finals. Without each and every person, none of this would happen!
