Last season’s SBL Premier Division winners Ormesby are set to play their first match of the 22/23 season this weekend. The north-east side will make the journey to league newcomers Brighton.

Same Mabey, Joseph Elia and Thomas Rayner are Ormesby’s trio making the journey. Mabey was an inspirational signing for the away side last year, ending the season with a 100% record. Elia, a member of the Cypriot national team, comes into the squad off the back of a fifth place finish at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Ormesby are without David McBeath for the fixture as he is part of the British Para at the World Para Table Tennis Championships in Andalucia, Spain.

Brighton lost out in their opening tie in a thrilling encounter against North Ayrshire. Will Bayley, part of the Brighton squad, will not play as he has made it through to the gold medal match at the Worlds in Spain.

In the only other fixture to take place on Saturday BATTS will host Ormeau from 13:00.

Josh Bennett, Shayan Siraj and Jack Bennett will play for BATTS as they look to bounce back from their opening round loss to Fusion. Ormeau fought to a 4-3 victory against Fusion in their opening round. Matt Ware, Zak Wilson and James Skelton were all crucial to that victory.

Urban TTC v North Ayrshire has been postponed until Saturday 14th January 2023.
