Bethany Ellis has nailed her 100-mile running challenge and taken her total raised for cancer charities to more than £2,400.
The No 3 Cadet girl in the country celebrated completing the century by running into the sea in Morecambe Bay near her home.
Bethany and her mum Rebecca completed the 100 miles together and have raised (when Gift Aid is included) more than £840 so far for Myeloma UK. That adds to the £1,600 Bethany raised with her 100km in a week challenge last May.
Bethany said: “I have enjoyed doing the 100-mile challenge with my mum, as it makes you appreciate what you can do and some people are not lucky enough to be able to enjoy simple things because they are poorly with cancer.
“Hopefully the money we have raised will help in some small way to make people’s lives easier and one day not have a cancer that can’t be cured at all.”
As for braving the shivery Morecambe Bay, Bethany added: “I wanted to do it as so many people have given donations and thought it would be an exciting thing to do at the end of the challenge if we reached over £650.
“I was a bit scared when it came to it as it felt so cold even before I got in the water! The water made my legs feel numb, but I forced myself as I said I would do it and I won’t quit!”
Myeloma is a type of blood cancer and around 5,700 people, mainly aged over 65, are diagnosed with it every year in the UK.
