Charlotte Carey will help shape the future careers of young table tennis prospects when she takes up the role of National Pathway Coach from 1 June.

The Welsh ace, who reached a career high of 98 in the world, has worked as a support coach in the performance pathway for the past year and now steps into a permanent position.

Her roles will be to:

  • Lead the England Futures Programme (U13), driving the national camp programme and curating an international calendar of events, ensuring the pathway is laser-focused on creating U13 international medallists before players transition up the pathway
  • Identify talented players in the network, including at Pathway Development Centres (PDCs) and at domestic competitions
  • Drive the engagement of girls at this stage of the pathway

Charlotte, who represented Wales at four Commonwealth Games and has a Commonwealth bronze medal, said: “Having worked with the Futures squad over the last year, I’m really excited to get to work with them more in the new role.

“I’ve seen some exciting prospects and hope to have a really positive influence as they begin their journeys into the table tennis world.

“It’s nice that this role is new and I can bring some of my own ideas into it, and I’m hoping to find some more amazing players for the future of English table tennis.”

Charlotte’s role is a 0.75 full-time equivalent. Also joining the Futures Programme is Ben Barlow, the Head Coach at Barnsley TTC, who will be the lead support coach on camps and also support with activity around the PDCs.

Head of Pathway Development Emma Vickers said: “We are very pleased that Charlotte has formally accepted the offer to join our performance team from June.

“Charlotte’s expertise in player development, international table tennis and female player development will go a long way in supporting our young players in the Futures squad to become international medallists in the U13 age category.

“She will play a key role in delivering the England Futures programme and ensuring the right environment and opportunities are presented to develop England’s next top players.”
