The top two in the Senior British Clubs League, Championship division, are separated by a wafer-thin margin – so their imminent clash this weekend promises to be a thriller.
BATTS II moved top of the table with two victories on the day at the last get-together before Christmas, while previous leaders Ormeau dropped a point with a draw against Urban.
That left both teams on 15 points and on the same sets ratio, and only separated by a narrow games ratio in favour of the Essex club.
So, while their meeting in the first round of matches this Saturday may not ultimately decide the title, it is a chance to open up some daylight – unless, of course, it finishes as a draw!
Third-placed Perry Dale will see a chance to make up ground as their two matches on Saturday are against winless bottom side Wensum and seventh-placed Urban.
And with Wymondham, who led the standings earlier in the season, also looking to get their form back and move up the table, there is plenty of scope for the top three to slip up – particularly as Wymondham face both Ormeau and Perry Dale over the course of the weekend and Perry Dale meet BATTS on Sunday morning.
