Entries to the landmark Centenary English Leagues Cup Competitions, sponsored by Rocca Creative, have soared – with more than 100 received and a doubling of female teams.
The Senior men and women will compete in the zonal rounds on Saturday, with 45 teams entered in the Wilmott Cup for men and 19 in the women’s JM Rose Bowl.
The following weekend sees the Juniors in action – 32 teams have entered the Carter Cup for boys and 11 have entered the Bromfield Trophy for girls.
The Bromfield Trophy field has more than doubled since the tournament was last held three years ago, and the JM Rose Bowl entries are just under double. In total, there have been 107 entries across the four competitions.
This means there will be a full house of eight finalists in each of the four competitions for the final tournament at Draycott & Long Eaton TTC on July 9-10.
Before that, the zonal qualifying will be held this month at venues from Hull in the north to Isle of Wight in the south and from Norwich in the east to Plymouth in the west.
The ELCC was renamed for this season to reflect the centenary of the sport’s governing body, and free entry was given to all leagues.
The ELCC is the oldest domestic table tennis competition run by Table Tennis England, with the Willmott Cup first contested in 1935 and the Bromfield Trophy in 1939.
