Community360, a Colchester-based charity dedicated to enabling social action to improve people’s quality of life, is proud to facilitate the One Colchester Community Hub in the heart of the city centre. The Hub offers a wealth of services and support, and is host to a wide range of activities, programs, social and wellbeing activities which are all focussed on enabling communities to thrive in an inclusive environment. As part of the Communities Can Physical Activity project, Community360 and the Hub have had the opportunity to host additional physical activity initiatives in order to encourage service users to be more active in their daily lives. The most notable was themed around the Olympic and Paralympic games and gave the public the chance to try their hand at a number of Olympic and Paralympic sports, including Table Tennis, which has welcomed over 200 participants to the Hub. Following this success, the decision was made to make Table Tennis available all week-round at the Hub. Open to the public Monday to Saturday, 10am-3pm, anyone can now visit the Hub and make use of the table to their heart’s content! It has been four weeks since this fantastic launch, and we welcome on average 15 unique participants during the week, as well as ten more on a Saturday, playing for at least 10 minutes at a time. This project has allowed friendships to be formed over the table, with two gentleman in particular meeting 2-3 times per week just to play, and some students even coming in on their lunch breaks to relax away from College. Table Tennis is available at the One Colchester Community Hub on Long Wyre Street, Colchester from 10am-3pm daily Monday-Saturday.
