Rohan Dani had two last-16 finishes at the WTT Youth Contender Al Ain in the United Arab Emirates, losing to the top seed and eventual champion in one and the gold medallist in the other.

Dani got through the group stage in both under-15 and under-17 competitions, picking up a good 3-2 win against Ylyas Allanazarov of Turkmenistan in the last 32 of the older age group, before going out in four to top seed Alan Kurmangaliyev, the world No 12 junior.

Dani battled hard to take the third game 16-14 before Kurmangaliyev, who went on to win the title, completed his victory in the fourth.

In the under-15s, Dani defeated an Egyptian opponent in the first round and then went out, again in four, to Atherva Gupta from India, who went on to win the gold medal.
