Pablo Ramirez Rioja reached the B final at the European Under-13 Championships in Romania, where Dimitar Dimitrov was the only member of the England squad to reach the main draw.

Having finished 22nd as a team, the five England players also competed in singles and mixed doubles competitions.

Dimitrov made it through to the main draw of the Boys’ Singles having won two of his three group matches, then lost out in the last 64 to Joel Isaksson of Sweden.

Ryan Goodier picked up one victory but Ramirez Rioja was defeated in all three matches and so both went into the B-final draw, Goodier starting in the last 32 and Ramirez Rioja one round earlier.

Both battled their way into the semi-finals, where Ramirez Rioja defeated Andrei Miscisin of Moldova in four, but Goodier narrowly lost out to Italy’s Pietro Andreoli in five. Andreoli went on to defeat Ramirez Rioja in four games in the final.

In the Girls’ Singles, Hannah Saunders won one of her three group matches, while Violet-Lily Marquis was defeated in all three, although two were in a decider and one of those was against the eighth seed Zsofia Fegyver after a fightback from 2-0 down. Both English girls went out in their first matches in the B-final.

In the Mixed Doubles, Goodier & Marquis got through their first-round match to join Ramirez Rioja & Saunders and Dimitrov & Beloslava Balkanska of Bulgaria in the last 64, but all three pairs were knocked out at that stage.
